Green Tea

Green tea is made from Camellia sinensis leaves, like black tea, but undergoes minimal oxidation in processing (to make green tea, tea leaves are simply steamed; no fermentation is involved). Because of the way green tea is processed, green tea is richer in antioxidants than other types of tea. According to Britain’s National Health Service (NHS), there is increasing evidence that green tea is beneficial for cardiovascular disease prevention. What other reasons are there for drinking green tea? Below are six reasons from Men’s Health

Six reasons to drink more green tea

  • Potential to increase calorie burn: According to research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrtion, catechin polyphenols in the tea can increase metabolism rate and increase calorie burn.
  • Lower cholesterol: antioxidants in green tea lower LDL cholesterol and can reduce heart attack risk, according to a Chinese study.
  • Hangover cure: green tea is a herbal hangover cure according to the article. Research has shown that it can also help prevent liver disease.
  • Increase exercise endurance: increase endurance by up to 24% by drinking green tea before exercise.
  • Keep skin looking young: UK research published in the British Journal of Nutrition has found that green tea may help against sunburn and longer term effects of UV skin damage.
  • Memory: Swiss research has shown that green tea has a beneficial effect on working memory processing

If that’s not enough to convince you, it tastes quite nice too and is a refreshing alternative to black tea!

For this post we snapped Green whole leaf tea from the Rare Tea Company which is a small independent company based in London. Their tea is handcrafted by skilled men and women and sustainable practices are used to benefit both the land and the people who live off it. See their website for more information.
