Bibury Village Cotswolds – “The most beautiful village in England”

Bibury, a small, picturesque village in the Cotswolds, might seem familiar to UK citizens, as the village’s most famous terrace of cottages, Arlington Row, is featured on the inside cover of many UK passports. The village also featured as the location for a scene in the 2001 rom-com “Bridget Jones’s Diary”. Located on the River Coln, between Oxford (29 miles or 47 Km) and the Capital of the Cotswolds, Cirencester (6.6 miles or 10 Km away), Bibury has to be worth a visit during any stay in the Cotswolds.

Bibury has a long history: it was mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086. The discovery of a Roman Villa in the village, though, hints at its history going back far further. More recently, William Morris, the English poet and novelist described Bibury as “the most beautiful village in England”, while the Huffington post simply said “It’s so bloody perfect, we can’t get enough of it.”

The image above, shot by jfFrank, features the bridge over the River Coln (a tributary of the River Thames) leading to the Swan Hotel set in a row of charming Cotswold cottages. Find out what to do in Bibury from the Visit the National Trust .
