Abereiddy, St Davids

Abereiddy (or Abereiddi in Welsh) – located on the St Davids Peninsula in Pembrokeshire, Wales – was famous as a small slate quarry from which slate was exported to nearby Porthgain. One former quarry in Abereiddy has since filled with water to form the Blue Lagoon. Despite the name, the water is given a greenish hue by mineral deposits from the rocks around it. At 25 metres deep, Abereiddy’s Blue Lagoon is famous for adventure sports, including coasteering and diving.

Abereiddy’s claims to fame include hosting the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series, featuring in Sarah McLachlan’s Silence video. See the Visit Pembrokeshire for more information on Abereiddy and how to get there.

Abereiddy is linked to Porthgain by the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. This is one of the top 10 UK walks, according to the Guardian. Abereiddy is close to St Davids, located in the north of Pembrokeshire. St Davids is the smallest city in Britain and owes its name to the Patron Saint of Wales. The history of St Davids in fact goes back to the fourth century, around the time that St David himself lived there.

Porthgain and Abereiddy are but a few of the delights to be discovered around St Davids and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. See the Visit Pembrokeshire and Visit Wales websites to find out more about how to get the best out of your visit to Pembrokeshire.

Abereiddy and other locations are featured on the jfFrank online website.
